Happy Wednesday! I apologize for the delay in your weekly dose of Simple-Swaps, I was out in New York City doing field research as Wayne and I attempted to try every eatery we had seen on the Food Network. Thank goodness we implemented a few Simple-Swaps like walking EVERYWHERE and SHARING meals or else you would have had to roll us off the plane!
While Wayne sought out every pizzeria in lower Manhattan, my sweet tooth got the best of me and I was on a quest for one thing and one thing only…Holey Donuts! Though you can order these donuts online, I wanted to experience them in person. So, off we went in the NYC rain on a 7 mile quest to find the small store front that opened on the Lower West Side.
Finally, we found it. Holy $%$!, these donuts were incredible! While the friendly staff greeted you at the door and offered you a warm cup of coffee, the aroma of cinnamon, sugar and all things delicious engulfed your senses. It was a hard decision to figure out which one we were going to split, but ended up settling on the Cinnamon Strudel. For 189 calories and only 5 grams of total fat, I’d say we found ourselves a winner!
I wanted so badly to order a half dozen to nosh on later, but instead I decided to bow out and focus on a new mission to create a Simple-Swap donut recipe of my own. Though my ideas are flowing, I have yet to get back in the kitchen. In the meantime, I leave you with an excellent Pumpkin Donut Recipe with Maple Pecan Frosting brought to you by Alex of Delish Knowledge. Enjoy!
