Almost two weeks into the Shaw Challenge and I have to say… I have found my new favorite investment! Enter… the FitBit Charge HR. My friend owns a fitbit charge 2 tracker and loves it, so I had to buy a fitbit for myself. Before I give you my $.02 on this device, I want to let you in on a little secret about me, I suffer from a serious case of John Zabel. By what do I mean?
Well, my father (aka John Zabel) just so happens to be a financial advisor. From the time my sisters and I were in middle school we were forced to learn a “life lesson” and track our expenditures on an excel sheet. However, no “big purchase” item was ever to be made without making a list first; “Was this really the best deal? Are you sure it has a warranty? Did you check Big 5?” Oye vey… the
nightmares memories are flashing back!
Don’t worry Dad, in the end you worn off on me because it took me nearly two solid years to bite the bullet and purchase my first electronic health device. After months of reading reviews, asking friends for their opinions and searching the net for the best deal, it wasn’t until two weeks ago that I finally found the ONE!
Though the Fitbit team has quite the selection of electronic health devices, the two newly released versions (Charge HR and Surge) are equipped with electronic heart rate monitors that help track your cardio zones to assess your energy expenditure. The only difference between these two is the Surge is about $100 more and has a GPS tracker. Personally, I don’t see the use in spending the extra $ when the Charge HR already tracks the distance of your workouts as well as your daily steps. Plus, most of us run with our phones anyhow and utilize FREE apps like Strava that track your routes.
After calling nearly every sports store, Target and Walmart in the San Diego area looking for the Black Charge HR small, I resulted to purchasing off Amazon and had it with 48 hours. Save yourselves the headache and just head straight to Amazon!
So, the verdict after two weeks in wearing this little guy? I LOVE IT! #REALTALK, it’s the best $150 I have spent on a piece of fitness equipment in a long time. Not only does it motivate me to move a little more by sending me friendly reminders to “get 1500 more steps to meet your daily goal”, it also allows me to enter into competitions with my other Fitbit friends. You can even win badges (yep, just like the days of Girl & Boy Scouts!) when you hit your goals!
Being we are just 31 days away from my little sister’s wedding, it’s a great motivation for Mr. CEO and I to get our butts moving. Plus, Fitbit sends you weekly updates showing you how you did overall on your past week in meeting your goals. I have to admit, I am super excited that my daily steps equates to over 8 miles!
Other features of the Charge HR include a food diary log as well as a sleep monitoring system. Honestly, I was not impressed with the food diary so ended up syncing the MyFitnessPal app with the Fitbit app to track my foods. But the sleep monitoring is awesome! It definitely is proving even more so than before to the CEO that I truly am an insomniac! Not that I am proud of this by any means (trust me, I’d kill to sleep 8 hours a night), but at least gives me some merit when I wake him up at 330AM just to let him know I am awake and ready to chat if he wakes up too :)!
Anyone else in the Fitbit family?! Please feel free to comment here or send me a message and I’ll add you as a Fitbit friend! It’s always great to motivate each other to move just a little more… remember, a partner is one of the best measures for accountability in your healthstyle routines!
