NYC – New York City, the Big Apple, the City that Never Sleeps, the Melting Pot… the list could go on. It’s no wonder the Big City has such a plethora of names when you see firsthand the diverse culture present at nearly every twist and turn.
Sure, Central Park is a tourists delight (I mean come on, you don’t see parks like that in the West), but it’s also home to thousands of early morning New Yorkers who are up, out and ready to get their fitness on. Caution though… bikers DO NOT STOP for tourists; I may have learned that the hard way!
Nevertheless, I was able to swing a quick 36 hours in the city this past weekend and must admit, I now understand while my sister and her husband are always “starting that diet next Monday!”
A foodies paradise, a dieters worst nightmare – it’s hard to say. You know I am all about balance and moderation when it comes to food, but what a challenge it is when you’re surrounded by SOOOO many wonderful options. Plus, it doesn’t help that I happen to have seen nearly every episode of Food Network’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”, “Unique Sweets” and “101 Places to Eat in the US”, of which 75% happen to be in the City!
Pizza… that’s a must. Cheesecake… alright, you’ve twisted my arm. Tapas… they’re portion controlled, right? After a day straight of a little of this and a little of that, I realized I too just may be “starting that diet next Monday”!
Though Mr. CEO and I visited NYC back in November, we missed out on Chelsea’s Market- a foodie’s paradise!
Thank goodness the lovely Zabel-Wirdaks were all in for helping me to alleviate this rookie mistake. As you can see, they are practicing portion control with these mini doughnuts from the infamous Doughnuttery. Fresh baked donuts… come on, you can’t get better than that!
At the next turn, I found my new favorite shop… Spices and Teases. This is the mecca of super spices and blends. I happen to have found a few new gems for the Shaw Kitchen, like pure Jalapeno Powder! Get ready for some spicy additions to the #simpleswap arsenal coming at you soon!
I may have earned my first Trail Shoe Badge on Fitbit (aka met 30,000 steps in one day!), but sadly to say consumed enough calories to break even- LOL! I didn’t even get a chance to indulge in the Japanese Nachos I saw or the Vegan Sushi! I guess that just gives me an excuse to do some field research and bring Mr. CEO back to the Big Apple with me next year.
